Postnatal workshops to support your breastfeeding journey
I run a selection of different small group workshops both face-to-face at The Baby Room, Exeter and over Zoom, allowing you to attend no matter where you live.

Positioning & Attachment (1.5 hours £15)
Are you finding feeds painful or uncomfortable?
This workshop will cover the basics of how to improve your positioning and attachment. We will cover how to get a deep latch using a range of different positions and will explore how you can check whether a latch is deep and efficient. We will also discuss ways to help heal your nipples, factors that may affect baby's latch and how to seek further support of necessary.

Increasing Milk Supply (1.5 hours £15)
Have you got a low milk supply? Are you having to give your baby top-ups? Is your baby's weight gain slow? Then this workshop may be for you.
We will cover:
How to know whether you have a low milk supply
Potential reasons behind a low milk supply
Strategies to increase milk supply at the breast
Expressing and alternative options to bottle top-ups
Galactagogues (medicines, herbs and foods
There will also be time to answer any questions that you may have.

Expressing Breastmilk (1.5 hours £15)
This workshop is a beginner's guide to expressing.
It will cover:
Reasons for expressing
Hand expressing
Types of pumps and their pros and cons
When and how often to express
How to optimise expressing output
Breastmilk storage
Options for using your expressed milk
There will also be a chance to ask any questions that you may have.

Introducing a Bottle (1.5 hours £15)
Many parents want to introduce a bottle (of expressed milk or formula) to their baby at some point in their breastfeeding journey. This workshop will help guide you through the process.
This workshop covers:
Reasons for introducing a bottle
Pros and cons of bottles
Bottle types
When and how to introduce a bottle
Tips for encouraging baby to take a bottle
Paced bottle feeding technique
There will also be a chance to ask questions.

Night Weaning (1.5 hours £15)
Sometimes parents choose to wean their babies/toddlers off the breast at night. This can be a tricky process for some.
We will discuss the pros and cons of night weaning, things you may need to consider and a variety of strategies for how to do it. There will be lots of chances to ask questions and share any feelings you may have around night-time breastfeeds.
This workshop is suitable for parents of babies/toddlers who are over twelve months old.

Stopping Breastfeeding (1.5 hours £15)
Some parents continue breastfeeding until their little one self-weans. However, others choose to wean their baby/toddler from the breast. Weaning from the breast can be as challenging as establishing breastfeeding.
This workshop is here to guide you through the process.
The workshop will cover:
Reasons for stopping
Pros and cons of stopping
Gentle and safe methods
Ways to manage milk supply
Night weaning
There will also be time to answer any questions that you may have.

Starting Solids (1.5 hours £15)
A small group workshop on introducing solids to your baby. Suitable for parents of babies 3-6 months of age.
The workshop will cover:
Reasons behind the 6 month guidance
Signs your baby is ready
Traditional and baby-led weaning
Good first foods
Foods to avoid
Balancing solids and breastfeeds
There will also be time to ask any questions that you may have.

Returning to Work (1.5 hours £15)
Returning to work can be a rollercoaster of emotions and can generate some questions about how to manage breastfeeding.
This workshop will cover the options around breastfeeding when you return to work, the law and guidance for employers, and the impact that returning to work may have on your breastfeeding relationship. We will talk about the practicalities of maintaining a milk supply and keeping your baby fed. As well as exploring the emotional impact on both you and your baby.
There will also be a chance to ask any questions that you may have about your own situation.

Pregnant and Tandem Breastfeeding (1.5 hours £15)
If you are currently breastfeeding and are considering trying for another baby or are already pregnant, this workshop could be for you. As an IBCLC and a mother who has fed through pregnancy and tandem fed, I will share evidence based information alongside a discussion of some of the practical and emotional aspects of embarking on this journey.
We will cover:
Pros and cons of pregnant and tandem breastfeeding
Conceiving while breastfeeding
Breastfeeding while pregnant, including changes to your milk supply, feeding around a growing bump, planning for the birth and the options around weaning
Tandem feeding through the newborn weeks and beyond
Places to go for more information and further support.
There will also be time to answer any questions that you may have.
